A Grace-Filled Journey: IFFAsia’s Pastoral Visit to South Korea

The Institute of Formation Fondacio Asia (IFFAsia) conducted a pastoral visit to South Korea from August 5 to 11, 2025, providing a significant opportunity for dialogue, reflection, and communion with Church leaders and alumni in the country.

The delegation was led by Most Rev. Joel Baylon, Bishop of the Diocese of Legazpi, Philippines, and former head of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), together with Florence Alexius, Director of IFFAsia from Malaysia, and Rodrigo Babiera, Assistant Director of IFFAsia from the Philippines.

IFFAsia(The Institue of Formation Fondacio Asia)는 2025년 8월 5일부터 11일까지 한국에 방문하여 한국에 있는 졸업생들과 천주교 종교 지도자들과 함께 만나고 대화하는 시간을 가졌습니다.

IFFAsia의 대표단은 지난 2014년 한국에서 열린 제6회 아시아 청년대회 당시 아시아주교연합회(FABC)의 Youth Desk 대표이자 IFFAsia의 전임 담당 주교님이셨던 Joel Baylon 주교님(현 필리핀 Legazpi교구장), IFFAsia 대표 Florence Alexius(말레이시아), IFFAsia 부대표 Rodrigo Babiera(필리핀)이었습니다.

The delegation also reconnected with IFFAsia alumni based in South Korea. This reunion offered an enriching moment to reminisce on their formative experiences at the Institute and to witness firsthand how IFFAsia’s programs have influenced their personal and ministerial growth.

대표단은 한국을 방문하는 동안 대전교구의 교구장이신 김종수 주교님을 비롯하여 몇몇 교구의 주교님들과의 만남을 통해 아시아 내 젊은 지도자들을 양성하기 위한 비전을 공유하였고 서로 협력하기 위한 방안에 대한 논의를 하기도 하였습니다.

또한 한국에 지내고 있는 IFFAsia 프로그램의 졸업생들과 만나 1년동안의 양성 프로그램에 대한 경험과 지금의 삶에 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지 등을 나누기도 하였습니다.

 As part of the pastoral itinerary, the team visited the Wake-Up International Youth Center, where they were introduced to the Center’s programs and initiatives. They experienced a Virtual Reality (VR) presentation featuring the Vatican and attended a separate session on the history of the Catholic Church in Korea, deepening their appreciation of the Church’s local heritage. The visit also included pilgrimages to important sites of Korean Catholic history, including the Sanghori Chapel, Haemi Castle, and Haemi International Shrine.

방문 일정 중 Wake-up 국제청소년센터를 방문하여 VR을 체험하며 바티칸 광장을 경험하였습니다. 또한, Wake-up 국제청소년센터가 생긴 배경과 현재 하고 있는 여러 프로그램, 해미국제성지, 해미읍성, 상홍리 공소를 포함한 해미 지역의 역사적 배경에 대한 설명을 듣는 시간을 갖기도 하였습니다.

 Founded with the mission of forming young leaders for the Church and society, IFFAsia continues to equip young people to grow in their human and Christian vocations. Its flagship Integral Leadership and Community Development Program offers comprehensive formation in Self-Leadership Development, Human Development and Leadership, Social-Pastoral Leadership, and a Post-Program Internship, thereby preparing participants for active engagement in Church and society.

IFFAsia는 청년 리더 양성을 목적으로 설립된 교육 기관으로, 개인 역량 개발과 공동체 리더십 강화를 위한 체계적인 프로그램을 운영하고 있습니다. 주요 과정인 통합 리더십 및 공동체 개발 프로그램은 자기 관리 역량, 인간, 리더십 역량, 사회적 참여 역량, 사후 연계 인턴십으로 구성되어 있으며, 참가자들이 다양한 사회 영역에서 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 지원하고 있습니다.

 IFFAsia invites young men and women aged 23 to 38 who are motivated and committed to serve to avail themselves of its programs and to be formed as leaders who will faithfully carry forward the mission of Christ in contemporary society.

IFFAsia는 23세에서 38세 사이의 청년 남녀 가운데, 사회와 공동체에 기여하고자 하는 동기와 참여 의지를 지닌 이들을 대상으로 교육 프로그램 참여를 안내하고 있습니다. 본 프로그램은 참가자들이 변화하는 사회 환경 속에서 책임 있는 리더로 성장할 수 있도록 지원하는 데 목적이 있습니다.
